Dustin Hazer of Ellicotville Brewing Company writes this:

Also, upcoming will be a homebrewing competition (details yet to be set in stone). I encourage you to start formulating recipes! The basic idea is that it is an open forum; any style can be brewed...within reason... as it may be brewed on our system, followed by a judging (to be held as an event at EBC.. 5 - 12 oz. bottles or 1/2 gallon must be set aside for judging) and the winning recipe will be upscaled and brewed on the system at Fredonia and sold as your beer! The judging for this event will be held at EBC West in April sometime. This should give you all plenty of time to develop some delicious creations. The beer must have been brewed sometime between Jan. 1, 2010 and up until two weeks before the event, as it would be unfair to enter a nicely aged 3 year old Barely wine (although samples of such beverages can be contributed to the Dan and Dustin taste test locker!).

He also notes that there will be another brew session at EBC West in Fredonia on Tuesday, 2/10/2009. This time he's aiming at a porter. Feel free to stop by and offer advice. We have a number of brewers in NCHB who put out some impressive porters!
